Drawings--The Horizon Series
Is “the” only “the” or is it much more than that?
In these drawings, multiple layers of infinity loops swoop around and through words on found Horizon magazine pages. This simple, repeated, meditative gesture interacts with "the"—particular, present, and signal to what follows it. The word "the"—unconsciously glossed over and ignored, but here enhanced by or covered with tangled loops.
These 1960s Horizon table of contents pages seem to struggle with diverse identity—a "The" coming to terms with many "Others" who are also multiple "the". While forecasting and framing diversity in the pages that follow, these pages grapple with history, art, culture—and a horizon, a future “the” that is illusive.
The series will continue until the pen runs out of ink.
